Few of us find our calling when we’re 14, but there’s a lot in celebrity hair colorist Christophe Robin’s personal history that feels a bit like, well, destiny. Take, for example, that the model on his first photoshoot (at the ripe old age of 17) was Stephanie Seymour—who became a lifelong fan of his non-follicle-frying dye-job skills and helped make him the go-to guy for clients like Claudia Schiffer, Kylie Minogue, and Catherine Deneuve. Or the fact that since opening in 1995, his Parisian salon hasn’t snipped a single strand: It’s dedicated solely to helping clients change shades, with as little damage done as possible. “At my first job, someone told me, ‘There are tons of good hairstylists—but if you become the best colorist, your clients will always be loyal,’” remembers Christophe. “And she was right.”

It was after he set up shop that Christophe started tinkering with homemade products to rescue stressed-out hair, and his first DIY formulas, like a cleansing lemon hair mask and restoring lavender oil, became cult favorites among his famous friends and then his French fanbase when he unveiled the line in 1999. But we Americans had to wait an awful long time for access to his collection, which now includes over 30 preserving products—it landed in the U.S. of A. just in time to save us all from the after-effects of Tay Swift’s platinum revival. —liz sheldon
