Who wouldn’t want to get a card featuring a fox carrying a love note, a sunny-side up egg, and a perfectly ripe apple? Or a squirrel hanging with a pretzel and some peppermint candy? If those scenes remind you of something out of your childhood copy of Angelina Ballerina, well, it’s no coincidence. Explains Clap Clap founder Mimi Kim, “I like drawing animals and flowers using vibrant colors, but people seem to think those types of illustrations are for kids. So I set out to make a stationery line for adults that’s still full of those fun and nostalgic feelings.”

Tugging happy memories to the surface is a theme the L.A.-based graphic designer, who went all-in with her newest experiment: scented cards. If that concept brings to mind headache-inducing magazine inserts, a quick sniff of Mimi’s stunning, essential oil-infused takes will teach you she has a real nose for this stuff. “It took a whole year to develop them,” explains Mimi. “I’m always trying to match my memory of a smell. Sometimes, there's a gap between what a real rose smells like and what you think it smells like, so the trick is to get closer to what people recognize by adding some secret ingredients.” —liz sheldon
