Among the best things to come out of Lisa Morgan's middle-school years in Palm Springs? Killer group project skills and a lasting friendship with Jen Trahan. The two reconnected post-college—Lisa with an accounting degree under her belt and Jen with and up-and-coming photography biz—and soon Jen brought her university bud Taryn Randall, a musician who does freelance accessory design for the likes of Alexander Wang, into the mix. When the three Cali girls weren't exploring their new Bed-Stuy digs (around, you guessed it, Jefferson Street), they were laying the groundwork for their own jewelry company. “Jen and Taryn are super visual and had been wanting to start a line that reflected their aesthetic for years. When I heard about it, I knew I needed to be involved,” remembers Lisa. While Jen and Taryn brought creative cred to the table, Lisa took responsibility for the finances and the biz, and Jefferson NYC was in full swing by 2014.
The hallmark of their swaying lariat necklaces and ornately spare two-finger rings is a loud—and thoughtful—sleekness that can do big-deal event or any ol’ Tuesday. And the trio has had some solid feedback that they’re onto something. "One major milestone for us was finding out that Bella Hadid and Kylie Jenner were wearing our jewelry in magazine features,” says Lisa. “We discovered both features on the same day, so it felt like a pretty big thing!" Which is all to say: If you haven’t seen their handmade-in-NYC creations all over your Instagram feed yet, you likely aren’t following who the kids are following. —neha kulsh
