Problem 1: While at a party it’s very easy to mistakenly grab the wrong glass. Problem 2: Most wine charms—created to eliminate any confusion about drink ownership—are not very charming. That’s where these leather wine tags come in. Designed and produced in L.A. by Clare Vivier with Apothic Red wine in mind, they are rich, polished, and most importantly, cool. "I find inspiration all around me, and for this project I loved the idea of finding it in a glass of wine" says Clare on her newest creation "The dark red color, the smooth texture, and the rich flavor of Apothic all felt consistent with the clean lines, and smooth, round fixtures of these tags." The tags can also be worn on your finger as a ring, combined as bracelets, or wrapped around your ponytail as a genius hair accessory—making them even better hostess presents for all of the holiday parties filling your calendar this time of year.
What to know: Set of four in black, red, gray, and silver; made in L.A.; leather with silver knob closure; come with a certificate of authenticity.

Meet The Designer
clare vivier
It all started in 2006 when Clare Vivier, then a journalist, couldn’t find a sturdy, stylish sleeve for toting around her computer. So, she decided to make one. “At the time, computers needed more protection. You know—when they were new, we all wanted to be really careful about our laptops,” Clare explains. “Now you can practically throw them around.”
After experimenting with all sorts of padding and quilted fabrics, she started working in leather, landed on her pared-down, sophisticated aesthetic, and got into the bag business. “I loved Bonnie Cashin-era Coach when I was young, how minimal the company was in its leather goods. Then I went to France and saw things that were just beautiful in their simplicity, without much hardware and other things going on,” she says.
Clare lived in Indiana, Minnesota, San Francisco, New York, and Paris (where she picked up a French husband and corresponding last name) before landing in Los Angeles. The city has proven to be a good home for her no-nonsense line of saturated navy messengers and slightly retro shoulder bags—she can do her designing from home (which means less time away from her seven-year-old son) and work with local factories. But lest you think she was always an ultra-polished sophisticate, you should know that Clare co-owned a hip-hop-inflected clothing store with an in-house D.J. in Haight-Ashbury during college.

Emerging Thing of the Week: Apothic Red
You know what we like? Wine. You know what we like even more? Well-priced wine. And this week we are psyched to announce—unveil if you will—a partnership with the super-cool Left Coast brand Apothic Red, a winery that delivers just that. Inspired by the vino, Clare Vivier (whose two other Of a Kind editions are long gone) made what we’ve been calling wine tags: sleek, classy-shassy takes on wine charms that you’d be happy to have your glasses wearing. You can scoop up her ($20!) leather creations here, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.Apothic—which comes from the wordapotheca, the mysterious place where vintners stored their most coveted stuff in 13th Century Europe—is a blend, and the exact mix changes every year, depending on the growing season and the way things shape up at the winery. For the 2010 vintage, Boyd Morrison, the man at the helm over there, added Cabernet Sauvignon to the Zinfandel-Syrah mix, and the result earns our fave wine descriptor: jammy. He takes his with coffee-dusted flatiron steak, gorgonzola-stuffed figs, and pizza with spicy sausage. Totally cool if you pair yours with a couch and some Parks and Rec—we feel you. Click here to score the edition Clare Vivier made with Of a Kind in mind. Um, hello, perfect hostess gift.
