Behind The Scenes

Check out Kristen Lee’s Ridiculously Awesome Shoe Collection

To say that Kristen Lee of Tenoversix likes shoes is like saying Barbie is sort of into the color pink. As with many obsessions, the designer-slash-buyer’s relationship with footwear goes way back: After graduating from Parsons, she had her own shoe company for four years, and, upon heading west to L.A., she launched Tenoversix—a beyond-sick boutique and accessories line—with her equally well-heeled bud Brady Cunningham. Her devotion really plays out in the shoe closet of her Nichols Canyon, Los Angeles, home—start your envy engines. —jessie pascoe“I pretty much have to keep one of everything that we design, and we sell so many amazing brands here at Tenoversix that I am constantly taking them. We just finished up a collaboration where we were designing the shoes for Vena Cava—that has been really fun. “ “My biggest fear with my new baby was that my shoe size was going to change. A lot of women’s feet grow like half a size, and I was like, ‘Please, no. No!’” “In terms of personal style, I dress fairly simply—a little bit more like uniform dressing. I change up my shoes, jewelry, sunglasses, and hats all the time. But I only do one statement accessory at once. Don’t go crazy.” “For spring, I am super into anything silver from 3.1 Phillip Lim, Loeffler Randall pumps and sandals, Vena Cava x Tenoversix wedges, Jenni Kayne pointed flats, and the amazing new line The Office of Angela Scott.” If you like what you see here, come back tomorrow to score the edition Kristen and Brady made just for Of a Kind. Meet Tenoversix

Co-owner of the ahead-of-the-curve West Hollywood boutique Tenoversix, Kristen Lee (left) knows a thing or seven about accessories. A quick glance at her resume reveals a Parsons degree, freelance styling gigs (think Nylon and British Vogue) an eponymous shoe line, and a position in Theory’s design department. But it wasn’t until she moved to L.A. that things got really interesting. There, in 2008, Kristen reconnected with her old fashion-school pal Brady Cunningham, and the two decided to set up shop, opening a store all about the non-clothing things you wear. “We have about 30 to 70 different designers at any given time,” Kristen reveals. “Our focus is on shoes, handbags, jewelry, but we now carry ready-to-wear, music on vinyl, art books, beauty, and children’s.” The latter might seem like a curveball, but both Kristen and Brady are new moms, and those tots of theirs need Bobo Choses onesies that mesh with the Vena Cava shoes the stylin’ matriarchs wear—and co-designed. Speaking of design: Tenoversix has since launched a house line that’s as ridiculously cool as anything else the duo carries. “Basically what we do is make all of our favorite basics that we wear all of the time—like really great pumps, simple roll clutches—nothing overly embellished, nothing overly trendy. Just something cool, simple, and chic that you can keep in your wardrobe for a long time,” Kristen explains. And if that isn’t enough to keep them busy, there are the collabs: partnering with Bodkin for shoes, doing a sculptural handbag with jeweler Gabriela Artigas, creating something special of Of a Kind (!!!), and designing sunglasses for the new eyewear site Lookmatic.com. The duo better keep plenty of those shades on hand in case things get even brighter over there. —jessie pascoe Get on our email list right this minute so you don’t miss out on their crazy-cool Of a Kind exclusive.

How Kristen Lee and Brady Cunningham Style Their Of a Kind Flora Clutch

You don’t need us to tell you that Kristen Lee and Brady Cunningham, the women behind the unbelievably cool L.A. shop and accessories line Tenoversix, have dope personal style—just look a the pics below. Their latest essential: the springy clutch they created just for Of a Kind. If you’re not sure how to incorporate this floral-and-leather wonder into your look, let the pattern-mixing wizardry of these two (spelled out by Kristen) guide you. —jessie pascoeReady to make this clutch your own? Scoop up one of the 20 right over here. “The Flora is a lighthearted take on our roll down Rothko clutch that we have been doing for awhile. We call it the Rothko because when you twist it down, you have two colors. The Flora is really about springtime, and the colors are fun and vintage-inspired. It is made of tan saddle leather and vintage floral fabric—it is very L.A.” “I think light denim, grays, and olive work really well with the colors of the Flora clutch. You can wear it with a denim jacket, a funny dress, and some ankle boots. I’m wearing leopard-print flats because I love mixing prints, and the floral and leopard go together in a Palm Springs kind of way. The outfit, most of which is from the store, consists of a R13 tee, a Cheap Monday denim jacket, a Bodkin olive dress worn as a skirt, and Dieppa Restrepo shoes.” “Brady is wearing a striped button-down, a vintage Yojhi skirt, and Acne Melrose pumps—the pumps and skirt are from Tenoversix. It is the same basic idea—mixing the stripes and florals—and the color palette is simple and unassuming.”
