“During the day I relied on Frank Sinatra, Django Reinhardt, and Edith Piaf to keep the mood in the studio upbeat and even-tempered (thanks, Pandora). But after-hours—and through long, late nights finishing up the collection—I would revert to the new release from the label Cut Mistake Music—in particular, the more experimental and ethereal first track by the band cnnr called ‘Candide,’ which helped bring me out of my element and focus on the intricacies of the collection. The B-side tracks by No Regular Play are perfect to get me moving around the studio.” —tara st james of study
