It’s always exciting when a bud of an idea blooms into a business—and it’s an apt metaphor for how Jenny Rush, who has always adored gardens, blossomed into a full-time jeweler. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a BFA in painting, she spent over a decade working as a photography studio manager, and while Jenny loved the work and the community around it, she started dabbling in ceramic projects as a fun release. Bowls and plates weren’t really her jam, though—so, working with colored porcelain, she began making pins and wafer-like statement earrings that reminded her of her favorite plants. “Accessories are my favorite,” Jenny says. “I made a few things for myself, and it snowballed from there.”
In 2017, while juggling her day job and mom life, she started selling her pieces in local shops and posting them on social media, and her business quickly exploded (especially once Jenny Slate wore a pair of her earrings in Marie Claire!). She eventually went all-in, running Four Eyes Ceramics from her Ohio home—but she still makes plenty of time to stop and smell the flowers.
