How does someone become a queen of the statement earring? Well, in Julie Thevénot’s case, it began with a creative childhood in the south of France, where she spent her days in Marseille making crafts and excelling in her art classes. So it made perfect sense when, after high school, her teacher suggested she study sculpture at Paris’s prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs. From there, Julie, decided to pursue another dream that had been dogging her since she was a teen: moving to New York. “I wanted to challenge myself with a new environment, and, like a real cliche, I landed 14 years ago with just a suitcase!” Julie reminisces.

After a brief foray into designing her own clothing line, Julie got hooked on teaching herself metalwork and jewelry-making, launching her online shop in 2012. She brings her artistic eye to shield-like earrings in sculptural materials like iridescent lucite and gleaming brass—but still makes time to work on decorative objects and weavings, too. It’s all the product of woman who’s known exactly who she is since the beginning—and wants to share that confidence with her customers. “I describe my creations as distinct and strong,” she says. “They are meant to be a statement but still comfortable—and hopefully make you feel like you’ll be able to dance all night.”
