Pajamas that make ya feel real fancy when you’re alone and won’t embarrass you when you’re not? They exist, and that’s all thanks to one savvy mother-daughter duo. After 25 years as an interior designer, Lynne Gilbert turned her experience obsessing over textiles, color, and pattern and channeled it into a line of comfortable, just-whimsical sleepwear. In 2011, she recruited a new head of production from Ralph Lauren—who just happened to be her daughter, Blair. "It's great working with my mother because we haven't lived in the same city for a very long time, and we were already on the phone all the time!” says Blair. “The only challenge I can think of is that it's hard for us to stop talking about work when we're together."
The constant conference calls have paid off in the form of menswear-inspired top-and-bottom sets and washed-out chambray nightshirts—for bedtime wear worthy of Dr. Mindy Lahiri, basically. Says Lynne, “You can be caught outside your hotel room in them, cook breakfast for house guests in them, or wear them at your in-laws’ house and look totally appropriate.” The pair are proponents of the very Marie Kondo-esque idea that you should love the things you sleep in, even when you’re by yourself. “Invest in things that make you feel good about yourself,” Lynne adds. “When you wear high-quality pajamas and climb into beautiful sheets, you feel cared-for because you’re cherishing yourself.” —tess falotico
