Khoi Le’s (Enviously Cool) Inner Circle
You know that saying “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer?” Backpack whiz Khoi Le makes us think the aphorism gods forgot the most important part: Keep your creative team of besties the closest. His crew—coined “The City Of Friends” by the masterminds behind the killer Soho boutique American Two Shot—is all about sharing the love. And maybe swapping some wares, too. Get to know the super-busy members.
“Landed, a creative agency and my source of inspiration to work harder, is run by Sophie Tabet and Courtney Dransfield. I met Sophie on her roof at a party she held at her East Village apartment, and Courtney during the summer of 2008, when I stayed back in New York to intern at Marc Jacobs. I met them separately, but they became really close friends later on. Sophie is from London, and Courtney is from Australia—so there are always lots of accents going on!”
“American Two Shot was the first place where Khoi Le was sold almost exactly one year ago. Stephanie Krasnoff and Olivia Wolfe took a chance on me after a meeting with me and the Landed girls, and they have been generous, kind, and extremely encouraging along the way.”
“Juliette Seydoux is an amazing Parisian illustrator who I met a few summers ago. Her drawings are an honest depiction of what she views as her surroundings—and they are as incredibly frank as they are imaginative.”
“Cafe Integral was started by Cesar Vega, who hand-sources the coffee beans from his hometown in Nicaragua, roasts them in his NYC apartment, and brews them into an array of addictive beverages at the cool downtown depot within American Two Shot. His pure love of the craft and dedication to details reminds of my design and production process.”
“With Outdoor Voices, Matt McIntyre and Tyler Haney match technologically advanced performance fabrics with clean designs to solve the ever-burdening workout clothes problem.”
“Started by Ali Bennaim and Ximena Chouza, Shadowplay NYC makes extremely graphic clothing and accessories with images sourced from NASA’s photobank of constellation images. I am doing a collaboration with them in the spring that will be out of this world.”
