Five Quick Qs with Melissa Coker of Wren

BY erica 07/10/2013

Fun fact: Melissa Coker was the very first designer we ever (ever!) talked to about Of a Kind. And so it’s kind of a big deal that we’ve gotten to feature her chill, polished line Wren on this here site. Read on to see how she’s managed to keep things fresh five-plus years in, and then head straight over to shop her sample sale: up to 80% off until 10 a.m. ET on Friday!

"Its such a beatiful and calming haven and I am addicted to their waterlemon juice at breakfast. They also have Marmite, which I have a weakness for."

Q: You’ve done a great job of establishing a few signature styles that have become Wren trademarks. How do you keep them feeling fresh?
A: We do have some styles that our girl really loves and buys over and over again. Our all-time bestseller is the open-back kimono dress. The bodice has volume at the sleeves, which makes for a super-flattering overall silhouette. We keep our signatures feeling new with exclusive prints, colors, and fabrications.

Q: Wren has a real celeb following. Have there been any recent sightings that have gotten you really excited?
A: Julianne Moore was spotted in a Wren dress a couple of weeks ago—that was pretty cool.

Q: What about other mind-blowing Wren milestones?
A: Collaborating with Minnetonka was a big one—I’ve been a fan since I was a kid.

Q: So, what are you dying to do next?
A: I’d love to do bags. I love the fact that they are so universal and so personal. Your favorite bag is there with you through all sorts of adventures.
