So Slick

So Slick: A Trio of Essential Oil DIYs

So Slick BY courtney conway 09/18/2017

Essential oils are pretty miraculous—they are antibacterial, smell amazing, and can be used in all kinds of helpful ways. But with great power comes great responsibility because they really do mean business. Adina Grigore, creator of the excellent skincare line S.W Basics (we can’t get enough of her cream and oil serum), knows the topic is a bit slippery, which is why she literally wrote the book on it, called Just the Essentials. In our series So Slick, she’s sharing the cliff notes on how to glide on into this world.

To give us a taste of what these slick picks can do, Adina’s sharing three concoctions that a) have four ingredients or less (she’s big on simplicity) and b) help with everything from period pain to anger-management.

1. Cramp-Relieving Oil

1 tablespoon evening primrose oil (Note: this is your carrier oil)

10 drops Roman chamomile essential oil (Note: This is different from German chamomile essential oil.)

10 drops clary sage essential oil

10 drops marjoram essential oil

“Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl or a jar. Use it like a massage oil, rubbing it all over your lower abdomen or anywhere else you have pain. Reapply every few hours until you have used the entire mixture.”

2. Fresh ’n Easy Mouthwash

1 cup water

1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide

2 to 6 drops tea tree essential oil

“Pour the ingredients into a bottle and shake well before using like any other mouthwash. Follow by brushing your teeth. This makes about 16 uses, and you can store it in a cool, dark place for up to one year.”

3. Uplifting Oil Blend

2 parts sweet orange essential oil

1 part lemon essential oil

1 part bergamot essential oil

“Mix everything in a small bottle with a lid. When someone makes you angry or sad, open and sniff and remember that there are so many good things in the world. Always seal tightly to prevent the oils from evaporating.”
