4 Places You Gotta Eat in Chicago’s West Town

Key to the City BY leah bhabha 07/12/2018

Sarah Fox left North Dakota for Chicago for art school decades ago, but she and her husband recently made their residency extra official by buying what’s called a two-flat in the charming West Town neighborhood. “Two- and three-flats are to Chicago what the brownstone is to Brooklyn,” explains Sarah. “Our building was built in 1879, and the interior retains some of the original details.” The other factor that sold her on putting down roots in this part of town? The proximity to all her awesome neighborhood food faves, which she’s more than down to share with you.

1) BAR BISKAY

“This is a new spot in the ‘hood with a mix of Basque and rustic French classics like salt cod brandade. It’s a super adorable spot to boot.”

2) NINI'S DELI

“It's all about the El Cubanito sandwich (eggs, cheese, beans, plantains, and avocado) and café con leche at this little local deli. They sell out of everything almost every day, so go early.”

3) DUCK DUCK GOAT

“I’ve come here two years in a row for my birthday. The heart wants what it wants, and mine wants Stephanie Izard’s cooking.”

4) KIM & CARLO'S CHICAGO STYLE HOT DOGS

“This little cart is in Eckhardt Park, near Chicago Avenue and Ada Street. It’s the perfect Sunday lunch. Grab a dog and plop down in the park. They serve Chicago-style veggie and turkey dogs, too!”
