How to Spend a Glorious Slow Weekend in Atlanta

Key to the City 03/21/2019

 Kimball House

When’s the right time to head down to Georgia for a weekend of rest, relaxation, and, let’s be a real, a whole lot of eating? Right now. Starr Miller, the jewelry designer behind Pieces of Starr, has lived and worked in Atlanta for over a decade and fills her weekends with loads of greenery, small-biz shopping trips, and late-night ice-cream runs. Here’s how to do the same.

Eat

BRASH COFFEE

“Each Saturday, my hubby and I have our own little rituals in the mornings. We pop over to Brash Coffee for their drip coffee, Cascara sodas, and yummy pastries.”

Sun in my Belly

SUN IN MY BELLY

“After coffee, we’ll drive over to Sun in my Belly for a breakfast or brunch. Atlanta is full of lots of amazing breakfast places, and this one is over in a part of Atlanta called Kirkwood. Atlanta is made up of lots of boroughs.  I live on the west side, so all of the things I love most are in the Inman Park, Candler Park, Grant Park, and Cabbage Town areas.”

GAJA

“Atlanta is booming with food options and new pop-ups and collaborations each weekend. One of my current favorites is Gaja, which has Korean treats over in East Atlanta.”

TALAT MARKET

“This is a pop-up inside Gato serving crazy-modern takes on Thai food.”

KIMBALL HOUSE

“Hands down my favorite finer-dining option. They have the most extensive raw-bar menu I’ve seen without being on the ocean, and their daily changing menu is decadent, thoughtful, and perfect.”

JENI’S ICE CREAM

“Late night treats are vast, but for true sweet treats, Jeni’s Ice Cream is usually where Chris and I find ourselves post-dinner since they’re open until 11 p.m. nightly and usually have a line up until the last minute. Best I’ve ever had.”

Do Things

COCO + MISCHA

“After breakfast, if I want to go shopping, I’ll hit up all my favorite places before my midday errands. Coco + Misha boutique has fantastic vintage finds, colorful clothing, accessories, and the BEST all-female team in the game.”

MEGAN HUNTZ

“Megan has her new brick-and-mortar store over in the Poncey-Highlands area and is the best-designed slow-fashion clothing I’ve ever seen. The silhouettes and colors are the ultimate comfortable effortless chic, and Megan is such a great leader in the slow fashion and artist community here in Atlanta.”

FLORA FAUNA

“I, along with lots of other folks, have been stung by the green thumb, and there is no other place to go besides Flora Fauna for my fiddle fig, monstera, and succulents. Caitlin, the owner, is so knowledgeable and hosts lots of plant events. It truly is a sensory treat to step inside her store.”
