A Miami Local on the Places That Won Her Heart

Key to the City BY katie nave freeman 06/06/2019

Adriana Epelboim-Levy was born in Venezuela, but now Miami’s her home through and through. “I moved here when I was 15 years old. It feels like Miami and I evolved together,” she says. “Back then, it had a completely different environment and skyline. It’s grown so much both architecturally and culturally.” That made it the perfect setting for launching her hand-painted shoe business, Alepel—and an ideal city for exploring when she feels like running around town or putting her feet up...

THE ALCHEMIST

“My favorite place to grab a cup of coffee is definitely The Alchemist, near my home in Aventura.”

THE DIOR POP-UP CAFE

“My go-to restaurants are down south, near Wynwood and the Design District. I’m a big fan of The Dior Cafe.”

MRS. MANDOLIN

“Mrs. Mandolin is another one of my favorites; it’s a combination shop and cafe.”

CASA TUA CUCINA

“If you’re in a large group, a great place to visit is Casa Tua Cucina in Brickell City Center for Italian.”

SAXONY JAZZ BAR

“I love the Saxony Jazz Bar in the Faena Hotel! It’s classic and intimate, a perfect spot to relax with friends while listening to soothing jazz music.”

Do Things

FAENA BAZAAR ROOFTOP

“This shopping experience is so much fun. You can find some of our designs showcased in their store. Plus, we hand-painted a beautiful mural on the third floor.”

WYNWOOD AND THE DESIGN DISTRICT

“There are wonderful boutiques where you can find other hand-crafted treasures. Some of my favorites are Oscar Carvallo, Katherine Cordero, and Vibe Consignment + Edition.”

VIZCAYA MUSEUM AND GARDENS

“Miami Beach and Ocean Drive are perfect for a day out in the sun and exploring Miami’s vintage culture. Vizcaya is a beautiful and historic spot from the 1920s—you can walk the grounds and gardens.”

MIAMI ART SCENE

“The greatest art scene happens during Art Basel, the first week of December each year. It’s a beautiful time of year to visit Miami, but, of course, it can get very crowded. Pérez Art Museum Miami and Frost Science are great museums to visit any time.”
